PR: Activities for the construction of the RUNE network are starting in the Municipality of Zreče
Ljubljana, 25. 07. 2024 – In the Municipality of Zreče, activities for the construction of the RUNE broadband optical network are starting. The network will provide 1,659 users in the municipality with access to a high-speed internet connection, which brings many advantages, such as a stable and reliable Internet connection, insensitivity to external influences, fast data transfer, etc.
As part of the RUNE project, the municipality of Zreče is included in one of the projects, which also includes an even smaller part of the municipality of Vojnik. Optical signals in the mentioned municipalities will be provided to users by an active access node, which is expected to be set up in the village of Zreče at the beginning of September. Soon after, the construction of the network routes will begin, which will start at the active access node and continue in several directions. The first users will thus be connected to the network already in autumn or winter. In the Municipality of Zreče, a total of 1659 addresses are expected to be covered by the optical network, and as part of the entire project, a good 1700 addresses are expected to be covered.
In the municipality, they are sincerely looking forward to and eagerly await the construction of optical infrastructure as the need for it is great. They also believe that it will have a positive impact on the development of the municipality. “The corona period encouraged the use of the internet and also working from home. The desire of our citizens for a stable and powerful broadband network is increasing, so we are happy to be able to provide them with a reliable internet connection and fast data transfer. This will improve the quality of living, education and work in rural areas. A high-quality network will certainly contribute to the development of tourism, agriculture and the entire economy in the area of the municipality of Zreče,” said the mayor of the Municipality of Zreče, M.Sc. Boris Podvršnik.
In order for the works to proceed faster, both the construction of the network between settlements (the so-called primary network) and the network to users and user connections (the so-called secondary network) will proceed almost simultaneously. Work within the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, while the construction of user connectors will take a little longer.
The inclusion of the address in the RUNE project can be checked on the website www.ruralnetwork.eu, where, simultaneously with the construction of the infrastructure, the connectors can also be ordered. The cost of connecting to an optical connection according to the currently valid price list is EUR 250.00 including VAT for natural persons or EUR 278.54 including VAT for legal persons, and at the request of the client, this amount can be covered by the selected service provider. Users also have the option of choosing between all the largest operators in Slovenia.
About the project
The RUNE project in Slovenia is implemented by the company RUNE Enia d.o.o. RUNE is the first and at the moment also the only cross-border project at the EU level, which connects the territories of several member states with ultra-fast broadband optical infrastructure, which received funds from the private Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF). The latter is the majority owner of Rune Group S.A., which owns the companies RUNE Enia (Slovenia) and RUNE Crow (Croatia).
In early December 2019, the RUNE project was awarded the EU Broadband Award by the European Commission as the best project in the category.
